Myrna (Kummer) Nelson, 92, a lifelong resident of Waterville, WA, died January 22, 2012, in East Wenatchee, WA. She was born July 3, 1919, to Henry and Alice (Malloy) Kummer at Waterville. After graduation from Waterville High School, she went on and graduated from Kenman Business School in Spokane. On June 1, 1943, Myrna married Neil Leon Nelson at Mt. Clemons, MI. Neil was a pilot in WWII, so she came home and worked at the Douglas County Auditor's Office until his return. They farmed until his death in 1969. After raising two daughters, Myrna went back to work for Douglas County in the Clerk's Office. In 1976, she was elected Douglas County Clerk and served until her retirement in 1984. Myrna spent most of her life on the original Kummer homestead farm, east of Waterville, enjoying her yard work and country life. Myrna also cherished the many times with her beloved children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their company made her very happy. She moved from the country to Waterville in 2008, where she resided until her death.
Survivors include her daughters, Camille (Dennis) Viebrock and Carmen (Neil) Nelson, all of Waterville; grandchildren, Crystal (Jeff) Toycen of Monroe, Chad Viebrock of Waterville, Neil B. (Hillary) Nelson of Waterville and Darren (Wendy) Nelson of East Wenatchee; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Toycen of Monroe, Douglas Viebrock of Brewster, Hanna and Ty Nelson of East Wenatchee and Delainey and Rex Nelson of Waterville. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Neil; and a sister, Bessie Stephen.
A Vigil Service was held Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted Thursday, January 26, 2012, in Waterville at St. Joseph's Church. Please express your thoughts and memories on the online guestbook at jonesjonesbetts.com.
