Local writer to study with famed poet
Thursday, June 14, 2012
WENATCHEE — Wenatchee writer Leita Crossfield was one of 12 poets invited to attend a workshop next weekend at the home of bestselling author Marge Piercy.
Crossfield was selected for the juried seminar based on five poems she wrote while a student at Wenatchee Valley College.
Piercy authored 17 novels, including “Gone to Soldiers” and “Braided Lives.” She also wrote 18 volumes of poetry.
“Marge’s poetry, such as ‘What are Big Girls Made Of?’ resonated with me and helped me through a difficult period in my life,” Crossfield wrote in a press release. “I’m humbled and honored to have this opportunity to work with Marge, whose work has inspired me to pursue my own writing. It’s a bit scary, but I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can.”
