Losing face

Artwork taken from downtown Chelan

Thieves have made off with a piece of artwork called “About Face,” which was located at Emerson Street and Woodin Avenue in Chelan. The piece, by Jonathan Vollmer, was on loan to the city for its Lake Chelan Arts Council outdoor Gallery. It disappeared between June 15 and 18. Sgt. Rob Huddleston with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office said someone broke the piece at a weld just below the necklace, taking what was about 7 feet of artwork. Anyone with information on the theft is asked to call Huddleston at 682-2588.

Not only takes what he can but breaks it so that it's incomplete for everyone. Nice thief. I think I'd spell thief differently though if I was writing it down. Something starting with an "A" maybe.

Dear Thief,

All deeds come full circle, bad and good.  You have done bad.

Take it from a man who knows what it means to take responsibility for his actions. You have no honor as a man or woman, until you decide to stand for what is right, and stop doing wrong by serving yourself instead of serving others.

You don't know what it takes to make art, which is why you steal it or destroy it.   Maybe you thought it was "cool" and wanted it for yourself, or maybe, you were being destructive, as usual.  Either way, you were no doubt, just serving your own selfish needs and desires by doing this.  Your actions are deplorable.

A huge amount of heart, soul, blood, burns, sweat, and tears went into making that piece. It was a creation that was inspired by true love for a very special person to me, now two.

Dear Readers,

It is this kind of thing that makes a statement about where we have been heading as a culture and society for a long time.  Until we take a solid stance, nothing will change.  Trust me, I understand what it means to make an "About Face" and start doing differently.

I believe that life and love is an absolute blessing, it is simply magical to me.  All I want to do is serve, live a beautiful life, and love with all my heart.  That is what About Face means.  We can all do that.  All we have to do is make an About Face when we head down the wrong path, and take the right one instead.

This artist has a level of passion and goodness inside of him unlike anyone I have ever known. It breaks my heart a thousand times to know that another person would ruin a beautiful artpiece. This artist is an absolutely amazing man and his heart shows in everything he does, says, and is about. I have a great level of respect for him and it would have to take a very unhappy and miserable person to do such an UNGODLY act.
