COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho — A triathlete has died after suffering a medical emergency during the swimming leg of the Ironman Coeur d’Alene last weekend.
Officials say the man was pulled from the water during the swimming phase of the event Sunday and was taken to Kootenai Medical Center, where he died Tuesday.
Ironman Coeur d’Alene spokeswoman Jessica Weidensall would not release the man’s name, but issued a statement Wednesday confirming the death of the athlete who required medical attention during the swim portion of Sunday’s race.
Weidensall says the man’s cause of death is not known.
