WENATCHEE — A 19-year-old Rock Island man suffered serious injuries Saturday night after jumping out the window of a home in the 100 block of South Cleveland Avenue, apparently attempting to escape police.
The man was in the intensive care unit at Central Washington Hospital this morning, but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, said Wenatchee Police Sgt. Ken Britt.
Police were called to the home at 10:50 p.m. by neighbors, who saw someone walking around inside the house, and noticed that cars belonging to the homeowners were not there, Britt said.
Officers responded and surrounded the house, he said. A few officers entered through a window and could hear someone upstairs, and then saw feet at the top of the stairs, he said. They ordered the person to come down, but instead the suspect attempted to escape from a back window to the roof of the home, Britt said.
After making it out to the roof, the man saw an officer, and jumped off the north side of the home, falling between 20 and 25 feet to the yard below, Britt said.
The officer saw the man land, and reported that his legs buckled on landing. He was unconscious, and taken to the hospital by ambulance, Britt said. He declined to release the man’s name because he has not yet been arrested.
