Yakima fugitive recaptured after 3-day hunt
Friday, November 16, 2012
This photo provided by Yakima Police Department shows Jacob John Lucey. Yakima police are upset that Lucey, who pleaded guilty to car theft charges was released the same day to see his dying mother. Lucey has been a fugitive since Nov. 1, 2012 when he failed to return to the Yakima County Jail from a 24-hour furlough. Heβs suspected in a carjacking last weekend. According to Capt. Rod Light, the dying mother story was a ruse. Police say Lucey is dangerous and never should have been released. He spent 8 years in prison for a 2002 shooting in Union Gap and had violated parole when he went on a spree of vehicle thefts over the summer. YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) β Yakima police say they have captured the fugitive who failed to return from a furlough to see his dying mother.
The Yakima Herald (http://is.gd/BH6cVy ) reports Jacob Lucey was recaptured without incident, ending a three-day manhunt.
The arrest was made at a Yakima residence.
The 29-year-old had been missing since Nov. 1, when he failed to return from a 24-hour furlough from jail while awaiting sentencing on car theft charges.
The decision to furlough Lucey has infuriated police, who did not learn of his release until Tuesday. That's when detectives linked him to an armed carjacking over the weekend.
