One person died in this two-car collision about two miles south of Entiat on Highway 97A Monday morning. The person who died was in the car at right. State Patrol Trooper Darren Wright said the occupant of the burning car got out before the car caught on fire. That person’s condition was not known, he said.

ENTIAT — A 37-year-old Entiat woman was killed this morning in a two-car accident about two miles south of Entiat on Highway 97A.

Summer L. Diehm was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a State Patrol report. The Ford Freestyle van she was driving collided head-on with a Ford Ranger pickup driven by Brandon J. Feldhaus, 23, of Wenatchee.

The Feldhaus pickup was northbound when it crossed the centerline, striking Diehm’s southbound van in the southbound lane, according to the State Patrol report. Feldhaus was transported to Central Washington Hospital where he was in satisfactory condition this afternoon.

The Feldhaus pickup burst into flames after the accident, which happened at 7:40 a.m. Feldhaus was not burned, according to State Patrol Trooper Darren Wright.

The accident blocked traffic for about an hour, then the highway reopened to single-lane traffic for about three hours.
