Museum asking for fire-related images
Thursday, October 11, 2012
A firefighter works on a backburn below Mission Peak earlier this month. Crews were trying to build the last bit of containment lines around the Peavine Fire in an area about a mile northwest of Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort.
WENATCHEE — Local photographers found plenty of beauty in the fire-blackened foothills, the work of heroic firefighters and the lingering smoky haze.
The Wenatchee Valley Museum and the American Red Cross are collecting those photographs, amateur and professional alike, for a November exhibit about the lightning storm and the resulting fires.
Residents of Chelan, Douglas, Grant and Okanogan counties are welcome to send up to five original images in a .jpg or .tiff format to billr@wvmcc.org. The photographs must be titled with a photo caption. Don’t forget to include the photographer’s name, the location and date the photographs were taken.
The deadline for submissions is Oct. 20.
The exhibit will open on the next First Friday, Nov. 2, at the museum. Prizes will be offered for “Best of Show” and “Peoples’ Choice.” For more information, call Bill Rietveldt, curator of exhibits for the museum, at 888-6247.
