WSU student critical with bacterial meningitis
Tuesday, October 16, 2012
SPOKANE — Health officials say a 19-year-old Washington State University student has been hospitalized with bacterial meningitis.
WSU spokesman Darin Watkins tells The Spokesman-Review that the young man began to have flu-like symptoms about two weeks ago. He was treated Sunday at a Pullman hospital, then taken to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Watkins says the student is in critical condition.
The newspaper says the case is not related to an outbreak of rare fungal meningitis linked to steroid shots.
