Captain Brian Brett heads toward a mobile home that was destroyed by fire in Wenatchee Sunday morning.

A malfunction in an air conditioner is the likely cause of a fire Sunday morning that destroyed a Wenatchee mobile home that was occupied by a mother and her four children.

Glen Widener, a battalion chief for the Wenatchee Fire Department, said the woman told firefighters that water was coming out of the air conditioner in a back bedroom so she shut it off and then the family left the residence. Widener said the fire started at the area of the air conditioner.

A neighbor reported the fire about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The single-wide mobile home was located on a lot behind 834 Walker Street. Widener declined to name the occupants but said they were now living with a relative. No one was injured in the blaze and no other structures were threatened.
