CHELAN — Hundreds of people could not call 911 on Monday night or Tuesday morning after fire burned through a fiberoptic line in the Stayman Flats area north of Highway 971.
Their service was restored shortly after 2 p.m., said RiverCom operations manager Jackie Jones.
She said that sometime before 8 p.m. on Monday, long distance service — including 911 — was cut to about 540 access lines in the Chelan, Manson, Mansfield and Waterville areas.
Jones said 911 is not a long-distance call, but requires long-distance lines in those areas.
RiverCom got a call from Frontier Communications about the issue at 7:49 p.m. Monday, she said.
The service was also out in parts of Brewster, she added.
Jones said during the outage, RiverCom asked local fire departments to man their stations, so that residents who need emergency services can call their local fire department, who can then contact RiverCom to dispatch needed emergency response.
