MOSES LAKE — The Eastmont girls soccer team took a big step in its push for a state playoff berth Saturday, upsetting Big Nine favorite Moses Lake 6-5 on penalty kicks.
The game was tied 2-2 after regulation and two overtime periods.
“This was huge,” said Eastmont coach Erin Kavanaugh, whose team moved to 2-0 in Big Nine play. “We still definitely have some areas of improvement, but it’s nice to be rewarded with the play because our practice schedule has been so off. It’s comforting and reassuring that we can still hang with the best teams in the league.”
Jerusha Pech scored off a Rachel Linderman assist to tie the game at 2-2 in the 79th minute. Linderman, a freshman, later scored the deciding goal in the shootout.
Rebecca Tarbert had Eastmont’s other goal in regulation in the 43rd minute.
