LEAVENWORTH — The resident piano trio of Icicle Creek announced its independence and a new name, The Volta Piano Trio, late last week.

“We had great success whilst representing Icicle Creek as the resident Piano Trio, and from last spring we felt the time was right to continue as an independent ensemble,” cellist Sally Singer Tuttle wrote in an email to the World.

The trio is: Singer Tuttle, pianist Oksana Ezhokina and Jennifer Caine on violin. Singer Tuttle said they named the group for the Italian word for “turn” or “transition” in music and poetry. It’s also a reference to a river in Ghana and Alessandro Volta, creator of the continuous electrical current.

The trio will play a private concert Saturday for donors of the new Center for Music and Art building. They will return to the area November 17 to perform a joint concert with a new group, Icicle Creek Chamber Players, at Canyon Wren recital hall in Leavenworth.

For more information and to listen to samples of their music, visit voltapianotrio.com.
