EAST WENATCHEE — An East Wenatchee woman had no idea her purse had been stolen from her dining room table while she slept, until she got a call from police Saturday morning asking if she had it.
East Wenatchee Police Sgt. Bill Redfield said he called the woman after assisting Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies, who responded to a call from the 100 block of North Mary Street at about 5:15 a.m. A resident there called to report that someone he didn’t know had entered his house and asked for some drugs. The homeowner told him to get out, and then called deputies when he saw the man attempting to enter other homes in the area, said Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal.
The deputy who arrived noticed a purse in the suspect’s van, and got permission from him to search the vehicle, Gjesdal said.
Deputies found two purses in the vehicle, one belonging to a woman who lives in the 200 block of Rock Island Road. Redfield said he contacted the resident, who discovered while she was on the phone with him that it was missing, along with a purse belonging to her mother or mother-in-law who was visiting.
The purses were returned, and Jeremiah Fuller, 28, of East Wenatchee, was arrested on suspicion of residential burglary, first-degree trespassing and second-degree possession of stolen property, and booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.
