RIVERSIDE — A 55-year-old Riverside man who was shot and stabbed several times on Saturday afternoon died, and a man who called authorities from the scene is in the Okanogan County Corrections Center today.
Bruce R. Molony died at the scene of the altercation at 12 Foggy River Loop Road, just north of Riverside, at about 4:15 p.m. Saturday, said Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.
Don A. Moore, 65, also of Riverside, was taken to the Okanogan County Corrections Center on suspicion of first-degree murder, Rogers said.
Molony had been shot and stabbed several times, Rogers said, and “most of the wounds to Molony were in the back.”
Before Saturday’s shooting, Moore had reported a theft, and told authorities he thought Molony was the culprit. Moore told detectives that Molony had pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the abdomen.
But Rogers said detectives believe Moore unloaded a .22-caliber pistol into Molony, then when he ran out of bullets, stabbed him several times.
When trying to drive away from the scene, he ran off the edge of the driveway and down a bank.
He then called police to report the incident, and was still at the scene when deputies arrived.
He was taken to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak overnight, and released this morning, Rogers said.
