OMAK — Authorities arrested an Omak man early today in the assault of Gustavo Diego Garcia, 33, who was struck on the head and then stabbed in east Omak Sunday night.
Michael J. Stensgar Jr., 27, is in custody this morning at the Okanogan County Corrections Center. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and first-degree assault, said Omak Police Detective Rusty Tallant.
Diego Garcia told police he was assaulted shortly before midnight near Dayton Street, said Sgt. Don Eddy. He was stabbed twice before he escaped and fled to a nearby residence, Eddy said. He was taken to Mid-Valley Hospital in Omak, where a hospital official said Monday that he was treated and released.
Eddy said Diego Garcia recognized the man who assaulted him as Stensgar. A motive for the assault is still under investigation.
