WENATCHEE — The Wenatchee AppleSox received six solid innings of pitching from Mitch Yada, and posted a 5-3 nonleague win over San Francisco at Paul Thomas Sr. Baseball Stadium on Saturday.
Yada, a Wenatchee Valley College product who has served as one of Wenatchee’s top relievers this summer, started on the mound and gave up three runs in six innings of work. Blake Phelps threw three shutout relief innings to finish the game.
The AppleSox took a 2-0 lead in the third inning as Grant Palmer hit a triple to score Joe Mello, then scored on a wild pitch.
After the Seals tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, Wenatchee re-took the advantage in the bottom of the frame when Stockton Taylor scored on a Brett Stephens single.
The AppleSox scored their final two runs in the fifth inning on home runs from Connor Spencer and Barr.
The AppleSox enter the final week of regular season play on top of the tight North Division by one-half game. Wenatchee has a 25-22 record, followed by Walla Walla, which beat Victoria 1-0 on Saturday, at 24-22. Bellingham lost to Bend 2-1 on Saturday and is one game back with a 25-24 record.
Wenatchee will play San Francisco again tonight, then get back into league play with a home game against Victoria on Monday.
