Leon E. Milligan

February 14, 1942 ~ July 19, 2013

Leon E. Milligan passed away on July 19, 2013, in the comfort of his home. He was born February 14, 1942, in Dallas, TX to Leon and Ardilla Milligan. He graduated high school in Lewisville, TX. In 1961, he married the love of his life, Linda. Leon attended Texas A & M University and earned his degree at Ft. Lewis College. He worked for Braniff Airways, then changed careers becoming a Colorado State Patrolman and moved his family to Durango. In 1974, he went to work for LaPlata County Sheriff’s Office and was appointed as the Sheriff in 1975. In 1978, he came to work for Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, moving to Lake Wenatchee. During this time, he had two patrol dogs, Thor and Buck, trained in Polygraph and started the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program and achieved the rank of Lieutenant. In 1992, he was named D.A.R.E Officer of the Year. Later that year, he was paralyzed in an accident. He was able to continue work until his retirement. Leon loved his family, the mountains, camping, fishing and being outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife; his parents; and brother, Eddie. He is survived by daughter, Karen (Gene) Hanson of East Wenatchee, WA; son, Shawn Milligan of Seattle, WA; and brother, Raymond (Pennie) Milligan of Dallas, TX.

The family wishes to thank Colonial Home Heath for your care and guidance, as well as Ballard Ambulance, Douglas County Fire Rescue and Hospital Chaplain Corps. You are all in our thoughts and prayers and we are forever grateful for all you did to help our dad.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 24, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, 711 Grant Road, East Wenatchee, followed by a reception at 1716 S. Kent Plaza, East Wenatchee. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Program, C/O Donation Fund, 401 Washington Street # 1, Wenatchee, WA.
