If you are new to the region, or fourth generation, there is one way certain to discover the true flavor of our homeland, its heritage and its resources. Go to the fair.
Opportunities abound. The NCW District Fair in Waterville runs through Sunday, and if you hurry there is still plenty to see. The Chelan County Fair at Cashmere and the Okanogan County Fair run simultaneously Sept. 5 to 8. See one or both.
All these fairs offer an experience you will find nowhere else, the sense of our regional roots, the pride in agriculture, the accomplishment of our youth, the work of our artisans, the food and entertainment. It’s always an education, and fun, well worth supporting and preserving.
