Local athletes make runs at Ironman Canada titles

WHISTLER, British Columbia — Two Wenatchee residents finished in the top-three of their respective age groups in the Ironman Canada 2013, which was held Sunday in Whistler, British Columbia.

George Velazquez finished second in the men’s 40-44 division and 16th overall, while Lynda Finegold placed third in the women’s 40-44 age group.

Velazquez had a time of 9:34:53. He completed the 2.4-mile swim in 57:18, the 112-mile bike ride in 5:07:12 and the marathon run in 3:25:08.
