Kristofor Michael Zehm

December 11, 1967 ~ August 18, 2013

Kristofor Michael Zehm died too soon from brain cancer on Sunday, August 18, 2013, in Leavenworth, WA. Kris was born to Dr. Robert Thomas and Mrs. Andrea Sue Thomas on December 11, 1967, in Yakima, WA. He was adopted and adored by Dr. Stanley Zehm in 1971. Kris graduated from Selah High School in 1986. He was an honor student, Captain of the football team and wrote for the school newspaper. He was appointed to West Point the following year. He graduated in 1990, with an Engineering degree and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. During the first Gulf War, on February 23, 1991, Kris married the love of his life, Shelly Poulin. He moved from active duty to reserves in 1994. Kris received an honorable discharge as a Captain in the United States Army in 1998. While he was in the reserves, he obtained his Master’s in Architecture from the University of Colorado. Kris and Shelly moved back to Washington State in 1998, for work and to be closer to family. In 2007, Kris and his family moved to Leavenworth, where he found his true calling, teaching engineering, art and digital design at Wenatchee Valley College. Kris was devoted to his family and friends. He loved every minute of coaching, volunteering, and attending his children’s activities. He was active in his community and church. Kris loved his Lord and this was revealed by how he helped others. His death leaves a pain in many hearts.

Survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Shelly; Kris is the father to three beautiful children, Bijou (10), Colette (8), and Atticus (4). He is also survived by his mother, Andrea Sue Zehm; and his sisters and brothers: Carolyn Chandler, Robin Monderes (Ted), Tamlyn Thomas (Steve), Laurie Brion (Alain), Jeff Thomas (Shellie), Erin Thomas, Stacy Wood (Doug) and Rocky Poulin (Shannon); and his parents-in-law, William and Katherine Poulin. Numerous nieces and nephews will remember their strong, playful Uncle Kris. He was preceded in death by his fathers, Dr. Robert Thomas and Dr. Stanley Zehm.

A Memorial Service honoring Kris was held on Thursday, August 22, 2013, at the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene. Reception/picnic followed at the Zehm residence on Shore Street. Contributions may be made to the Zehm family at Cashmere Valley Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, and online at Zehmfund.org.
