WENATCHEE — A former Wenatchee man was sentenced Wednesday to 10 months in jail for luring and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes, and barred from contacting the underaged victim.
Jacob Lee Ryan, 22, was originally charged with two counts of second-degree child rape over a relationship that began when he was 21 and the victim 13. The relationship took place in August 2012, with each party encouraging the other to lie about their age when introduced to parents and family, according to police affidavits.
A plea agreement in Chelan County Superior Court let Ryan enter an Alford plea to the reduced charges, meaning he maintains his innocence but agrees he would probably be convicted at trial.
The victim’s family provided her cellphone to police, with text messages between her and Ryan still stored on it. Ryan moved to Lake Stevens between the initial report of the crime last September and his arrest in June.
He is barred from contacting the victim for five years.
