EPHRATA — The Ephrata City Council will host two informal meetings to talk to residents about a proposal to add a one-tenth of one percent sales tax and use the funds to hire two police officers.
The meetings will be from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Sept. 18 at Ephrata City Hall, 121 Alder St. SW.
City Administrator Wes Crago said staff and council members will be on hand to explain the proposal, developed by a citizens commission.
State law allows jurisdictions to increase their sales tax to fund criminal justice.
Crago said the council will be talking to residents and discussing the proposal over the next two months before deciding in November whether to send the proposal to voters next April.
