Harry Forest Byrd

February 17, 1923 ~ November 28, 2013

Harry Forest Byrd, 90, died on Thursday, November 28, 2013, at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, IA. He was born on February 17, 1923, in Des Moines, to Harry and Virgil (Winburn) Byrd. Harry graduated from North High School and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Pompon, as a submariner during WWII. He resided in Omak, WA for over 40 years and was employed with Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company for 38 years, retiring in 1983. Harry was a member of the Elks Club and Masonic Lodge.

Harry is survived by his wife, Virginia; children, Gordon (Joan) Byrd of Ft. Myers, FL and Debra (Brent) Mundinger of Palisades, WA; stepsons, Larry (Jane) Ferguson of Altoona, IA, Gregory (Cheryl) Ferguson of Pella, IA, and Tom (Julann) Ferguson of Wheaton, IL; two granddaughters, Lauren Mundinger of Kennewick, WA and Jordan (Alika) Conley of Burbank, WA; seven step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren. Harry was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Vanecia.

Private Funeral Services and Burial will take place in Omak, WA on Friday, December 6, 2013. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel is assisting with the arrangements.
