WINTHROP — John and Agnes Almquist remember looking down Winthrop’s main street at “the other block” and thinking maybe they rented in the wrong location.
Even though their new pottery shop sat just across the street from the Post Office, all the foot traffic seemed to be down by Sam’s Place and Farmer’s State Bank.
It was 1974, and the North Cascades Highway had opened two years earlier. Winthrop was still largely undiscovered.
