Howard John Lowell

East Wenatchee, WA

Howard John Lowell, 70, of East Wenatchee, WA, passed away on December 7, 2013, surrounded by loved ones at his home. He was born on June 2, 1943, to Ernest and Inez (Kramer) Lowell in Wenatchee, WA. He attended school in Peshastin and Leavenworth, then spent a few years working at local fruit warehouses. Howard served in the United States Army from June of 1964 until July of 1975. He then moved to Belton, TX, where he worked as a bail bondsman until he returned to Wenatchee in 1978. At that time, he began his 26-year career as a machine operator at Alcoa. On August 4, 1981, Howard married the love of his life, Beverly “Joan” Davis. After retiring from Alcoa, Howard generously volunteered countless hours of his time to various organizations. He first joined the Douglas County Auxiliary Crime Prevention program, where he volunteered for 16 years. He later spent several hours each week volunteering at Central Washington Hospital. He also participated in Relay For Life for six years, and was a 20 year cancer survivor himself. Please feel free to make any memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society in honor of his fight. Outside of time spent volunteering, Howard enjoyed geocaching, hunting, football, and Nascar racing. He was also an active member of the Apple City Amateur Radio Club.

Survivors include his children, Rick McCandless of Wenatchee, Steve and Dianna McCandless of Ferndale, Evelyn Walczyk of Wenatchee, and Teresa and Gary Snyder of East Wenatchee; his siblings, Louie and Pat Lowell of Wenatchee, Judy Chrisco of Port Townsend, Verna Weber of Hood River, OR, and Wynona Leake of Friday Harbor; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his wife of 18 years, Beverly “Joan” Lowell, in 2000; and siblings, Bill Lowell, Harry Lowell, Ruth McFarland, and Sharon Lowell.

A Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 13, 2013, at Telford’s Chapel of the Valley at 2:00 p.m. Concluding Services and Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memorial donations may be made to Relay For Life. Arrangements are by Telford’s Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
