This week, the Worm decided to explore a few things to do in North Central Washington in the dead of winter. Now that temperatures are almost above freezing during the day, it’s time to pull yourself away from the wood stove and figure out how to survive your free time over the next couple of months.
The first thing that comes to mind with all this cold weather— and no significant snow — is ice skating on your local lake or pond. You all know your favorite spots. But skaters out in the Lake Wenatchee area, beware. The maintained rink on Fish Lake is undergoing some changes. Gary Schuster — who grooms the rink and has gathered 50 or so pairs of skates to loan out — says liability fears have intruded on their skating party. That ice just might be too thin, and someone without a brain might figure that because the ice skates are right there for the borrowing, someone else is to blame if they fall through and nearly die.
