Skiers and snowboarders rub the mounted wing from a B-24 Liberator bomber that crashed on Mission Ridge in 1944. Legend says rubbing the wing brings good luck and good snow.

WENATCHEE — Hundreds of snow enthusiasts at Mission Ridge Ski & Board Resort made their way Saturday to pat the mounted Bomber Wing leftover from a 1944 plane crash in hopes of bringing good luck and more powder to the snow-hungry facility.

The Rub-A-Dub Wing Party played off the legend that rubbing the wing will produce a good snow year. “We’ll see what happens,” said Ridge Marketing Director Jordan Lindstrom. “We’ll either prove the legend or debunk it entirely.”

The resort is open using machine-made snow, but has received only minimal snowfall since storms in early November.
