Stanwood nursing home shooter, 87, felt bullied

Tuesday, February 5, 2013

STANWOOD, Wash. (AP) — The 87-year-old man accused of shooting a supervisor at a Stanwood assisted living home told police he felt bullied by the man and intended to kill him and himself.

Police say Arthur Frank Hames shot the 57-year-old employee Monday afternoon in his office at Josephine Sunset.

A probable cause statement released Tuesday says Hames talked willingly about the shooting and was upset about failing to kill the man and himself.

Harborview Medical Center in Seattle says he was treated and released.

Hames was arrested for investigation of assault with a firearm.

Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton says Hames told detectives he kept the gun in his possession.

Josephine CEO Terry Robertson says handguns are banned at the facility. He also says the accusations of abuse are baseless.
