Omak superintendent killed in crash

Thursday, February 7, 2013

OMAK — Dr. Art Himmler, superintendent of the Omak School District, was killed in a car accident this morning, school board chairman Wendell George said.

Himmler has been superintendent at Omak for three years.

George said he was driving south on Highway 97 just south of Pateros when his vehicle went off the road at about 7 a.m.

He said he doesn’t know what caused the accident.

George said Himmler’s family was notified, and then he notified the staff at Omak schools.

A Washington State Patrol report has not yet been issued.

Such a tragic loss. I'm so glad that I got to know Art. He was a wonderful guy a blessing in my son's life. My prayers go out to his wife and kids.

I work for WSD and met Dr. Himmler last year at an educators conference. He seemed like such a kind and giving man. This is a real loss for the community up there in Omak I'm sure. Thoughts and prayer for his family.
