Finally, a store with fishnet stockings

Body stockings and pork tacos

You probably woke up this morning wondering, “Where in the heck can I buy cat-eye contact lenses, fishnet body stockings, blacklight posters and Pink Floyd drinking glasses?”

Glad you asked. Spencer’s (formerly know as Spencer’s Gifts), the 600-store chain sells all that stuff both nice and naughty, could be open by early April at the Wenatchee Valley Mall in East Wenatchee.

At first, Spencer’s arrival brought wails of anguish from fans of Tacos Chava, which was displaced by the new gift store. But, whew, the taco joint closed only temporarily and will relocate north a few spaces closer to Sears. Taco Chavas should be open in two or three weeks, according to mall honchos.

Hands-on Prezi

GWATA, our local tech-minded group, will show us how the snazzy new Prezi presentation software works at a roundtable luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Confluence Technology Center, 285 Technology Center Way.

Prezi is an alternative to PowerPoint and, oh brother, it comes none too soon. One more bulleted task list projected 20 feet wide on a beige wall and we’ll have no choice but to kick your asterisk and kick it good.

Anyway, it seems that Prezi ups the game when it comes to those kinds of presentations by making zooming and panning much easier. We don’t know what else it does, and that’s why we’ll attend the roundtable luncheon. Well, and to get a sandwich. Good sandwiches.

A kiss for Mountain Home Lodge

You amorous devils will want to note that Mountain Home Lodge near Leavenworth has been named one of the nation’s Top 10 Hotels for Romance by the travel website TripAdvisor.com. It’s listed as No. 8.

Mountain Home shares the smooching honors with Bardessono, the luxurious California resort, and Hawaii’s beachfront Koa Kea Hotel. And here’s why: Mountain Home’s got a great view, it’s got great food and it’s a true getaway. In winter, you can only get there by snowcat.

“It’s quite a honor to be selected as the only hotel in the Pacific Northwest, let alone one of 10 in the U.S.,” said owner Brad Schmidt. “Since we’re only accessible by snowcat in winter months — and yet just 2 miles from downtown Leavenworth — many of our local residents are understandably unaware of our existence and the privacy our unique hotel offers.”

And whenever you pause from the kissing, Mountain Home offers lots of skiing, snowshoeing snowmobiling and sledding. For more info, call ’em at 548-7077 or visit mthome.com.
