OMAK — The Omak School Board on Tuesday selected Tom Pickett — a former superintendent for the Quincy School District — to serve as its interim superintendent.
The temporary position is needed after Dr. Art Himmler, Omak’s superintendent for the past three years, died in a vehicle accident on Feb. 7.
Pickett will be on-site two days a week, and will be available to support the district, serving in the position until June 30.
Wendell George, chairman of the Omak School Board, said that after retiring from Quincy in 1995, Pickett served as interim superintendent for a number of local school districts, including Chelan, Eastmont and Cascade.
Most recently, he worked as a consultant for United Schools Insurance Program, working in pre-litigation services.
He was selected with help from Dr. Rich McBride, superintendent of the regional Educational Service District.
The board also hired Dr. Dennis Ray of Northwest Leadership Associates to conduct a search for a new superintendent. That process will be determined soon.
