30 days for hurling kitten

Wenatchee
A man who injured a kitten during a domestic incident with his girlfriend pleaded guilty Monday to animal cruelty.
Nicholas A. Brooks, 28, of Wenatchee will serve 30 days in jail for hurling a 10-week-old kitten against an outdoor brick planter box on Aug. 14. The cat was injured but survived.
Witnesses told police Brooks threw the cat after accusing his girlfriend of getting his outdoor tools wet while she watered the lawn. He was initially charged with first-degree animal cruelty and domestic violence, but the latter charge was dropped with his Monday plea, and court orders barring him from contact with his family were lifted.
He’ll be credited for 16 days already spent in jail awaiting trial. He must report for detention March 22.

I hope that kitten gets a better home - one that is free of violence, ignorance and hatred and with people who will love and protect that precious life.
Our animal cruelty laws need to be stronger with harsher punishments for people who commit atrocious acts like this.
If you know of animal cruelty (abuse, starvation, neglect, inhumane living conditions, etc.) report it as soon as possible. People like Brooks and other who cause suffering in animals must be stopped.

The cat went back to the original home. It almost didn't survive, and it had an extensive head injury.
I'm glad he has to serve some time, but in my opinion it's not enough. He should have to serve 3 months, standard. Animal cruelty isn't punished with a harsh enough sentence.

For those who object to the light sentencing of the gomer: Blame the prosecutor for making a plea deal in order to save time and money to avoid preparing for court hearings and a trial.

What is up with people deciding that it is ok to hurt an animal? They must be to afraid to pick on someone their own size? I hope the lady left him because it will be her next if he hasn't already.

Yes, a slap on the wrist, but the taxpayers that foot the bill for his stay in jail also got a break.
