John Smith appointed to Wash. Senate

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — A farmer and businessman has been named to succeed retiring Republican state Sen. Bob Morton.
John Smith of Colville was chosen by county commissioners who made the appointment on Friday for the remaining two years of Morton's term for the 7th Legislative District.
Morton retired on Tuesday after 22 years. Smith, 39, is a former president of the Colville Chamber of Commerce and currently is serving as chairman of the chamber's business development committee.
He and his wife, Dezarae, run a produce farm and cattle ranch.
