Federal prison for abuse of teenage girl
Friday, January 11, 2013
SPOKANE — An Omak man who beat a teenage girl with a propane canister and scalded her with boiling water was sentenced Thursday to nine years in federal prison.
Daniel Quilochin Fry, 21, pleaded guilty last April to assault with a dangerous weapon and maiming — federal charges because they were carried out in a home on the Colville Indian Reservation.
The victim, 18, reported the crimes in April 2011, and told tribal police and FBI investigators Fry had abused her over a five-month period in the home they shared — locking her in a closet where he doused her with cold water, beating her, choking her, stabbing her in the hand with a knife, and threatening her with a firearm.
In one incident, reflected in the maiming charge, Fry forced her to lie on the floor and then poured scalding water on her legs and back. The assault charge stems from an attack in which Fry beat the woman in the knees and legs with a propane canister.
An investigator’s affidavit said another man in the house admitted hearing noises from Fry’s room occasionally, but dismissed them. When arrested, Fry told the Colville Tribal Police officer, “Just shoot me.”
Fry was originally indicted on charges of assault and kidnapping, which were later modified with his plea. U.S. District Court Judge Lonny Suko ordered him to undergo mental health treatment while imprisoned.
