OKANOGAN — Okanogan County Commissioners on Wednesday appointed Omak attorney Charles Short as the county’s new district court judge, effective Jan. 15.
Short, 38, replaces Henry “Hank” Rawson, who was elected to become one of the county’s superior court judges in November.
Seven other attorneys sought the appointment. To keep Position 2, Short will have to win a special election this year, and an election in 2014, when the current term expires.
Short has been a lawyer in Washington for 10 years and has a private practice in Omak.
“It means a lot to me,” Short said of the appointment. “Growing up in this county, I really love Okanogan County, and I love district court as well.”
