Man arrested for burglary, indecent liberties

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

WENATCHEE — A Wenatchee man is in custody after a Wenatchee woman reported that a neighbor in her apartment complex walked across a roofline, entered her apartment through an open window and attempted to sexually assault her.

Jesus Betancourt-Madrigal, 30, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree burglary and indecent liberties. Betancourt-Madrigal is suspected of walking about 12 feet across a roofline of an apartment complex from his apartment to reach an open window in the woman’s apartment, said Detective Nathan Hahn with the Wenatchee Police Department. The complex is in the 1200 block of Maple Street.

The 34-year-old woman told police that she was awakened in her bedroom about 2:30 a.m. by a man whom she she knew as a neighbor in her apartment complex, Hahn said. The man, who was intoxicated, made sexual contact with the woman but the woman talked him out of raping her, Hahn said. The encounter happened while the woman’s 18-month-old child was in the bedroom. The child woke up but was not harmed.
