Defendant admits rash of TV thefts
Monday, January 21, 2013
WENATCHEE — A man accused of stealing TVs and related equipment from Walmarts around the region pleaded guilty to theft in one case last week, while the woman charged as his accomplice is still sought by police.
Roman M. Shrader, 21, of East Wenatchee admitted stealing a 37-inch Vizio TV, a home theater system and two Roku streaming media players from the Chelan Walmart in his Jan. 14 guilty plea to second-degree theft. Police said he confessed to similar thefts from Walmart stores in Wenatchee, Ephrata, Moses Lake and Kent.
The Chelan theft occurred Sept. 15. Shrader said he and his then girlfriend Sheena L. Duncan, 31, made the rounds of area Walmarts and pushed loaded carts of TVs and electronics out the door without paying. Duncan distracted nearby store personnel while Shrader put items in the carts, according to police reports.
In the Chelan theft, Shrader exited through the store’s garden center, but was recorded on video and spotted by a customer service manager, who also noted the license plate of his car. He later fenced the goods through a local pawn shop. The same vehicle was spotted in a similar theft at the Wenatchee Walmart, police said, and Shrader was identified in yet another theft Oct. 1 at the Ephrata store.
Shrader has not yet been charged with a crime in those incidents. He faces a maximum of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine at his Chelan County sentencing April 3.
Shrader has prior convictions for third-degree assault, third-degree theft, false statements to police, resisting arrest, and unlicensed driving dating back to 2006. He previously ran away from a jail work-release crew in March 2011, thinking he was fleeing a two-year sentence for probation violations when in fact he faced only five days.
Duncan was charged Jan. 14 with second-degree complicity to theft, which carries a similar maximum penalty. A warrant for her arrest was issued Thursday.

Good thinking Mr. Schrader! It's good to always understand why you are being held, isn't it? Einstein has nothing on you, and that's a fact!
