• The Saturday Night Bridge Club will be hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Van Cleve at their home on Douglas Street.
• William A. Montgomery and Mary G. McKillop were married last evening. The groom has been employed by Eagle Transfer Co. for many years.
• Charles A. Harlin presented a paper on “War and Peace” before the Open Forum last evening.
• The Society on Moral and Social Hygiene held its regular monthly meeting last evening at the Wenatchee Public Library.
50 years ago — 1963
• Larry McLean of Brewster received a Daily World carrier award last night. He was presented with a $150 college scholarship from Sylvester Feil, the Daily World’s circulation representative in Okanogan and northern Chelan counties.
• The third annual “Snow Train” excursion form Western Washington is planned for Feb. 9 in Cashmere, LeRoy LaVigne, Cashmere Chamber of Commerce president, announced this week. LaVigne said that this unprecedented third trip was the result of popular demand west of the mountains with many previous travelers anxious to again visit Cashmere.
• The 1963 United Good Neighbors campaign drive came to an official conclusion here yesterday. The 14-member budget committee, headed by George W. Hutton, announced that $108,500 had been contributed by UGN supporters.
25 years ago — 1988
• Frank Neher of Wenatchee was elected president of the Chelan-Douglas Council on Aging. Other officials are Duane Mikow of East Wenatchee, vice president; and Charlotte Thompson of East Wenatchee, secretary.
• Three Eastmont High School students are nominated for the Washington Scholars Program. They are Rob Hughes, Kris Harness and Julie DeFina.
