Students at Wenatchee Valley College are reviving a defunct literary magazine, The Mirror Northwest, and are looking for submissions of poetry, short fiction, essays, photography and artwork.
The Mirror Northwest, last published online six years ago, will be published in print this spring.
“We have a pretty good creative writing program at the college and this allows a place for students to publish and show their work,” said Jack Johnson, English faculty and advisor to the project.
Johnson said The Mirror Northwest is usually a student publication, but the editors decided to open its pages to the community this year.
“It gives us the opportunity as a community college to be an venue for writers and artists in the community,” Johnson said. “I think one of the ignored parts of our mission is to be a cultural center.”
The student senate and college gave the publication a small budget for printing and operations.
The magazine was a regular fixture at the college through most of the 1970s. Johnson revived it again in 1997. The magazine was published intermittently in the 2000s, based on student interest and participation.
The editors will consider submissions through March 1. Manuscripts may be subject to editing.
