Kylah Hankins (Mrs. Medlock), Trinity Tolliver (Susan) and Sydnie Aldrich (Martha) explain to Zoe Sandbak (Mary Lennox, seated) that things are different in England from Mary’s life in India. Lincoln Elementary students performed the musical “The Secret Garden” Jan. 12 with the help of the Missoula Children’s Theatre.

More than 50 Lincoln Elementary students presented an original musical adaptation of “The Secret Garden” on Jan. 12 with the Missoula Children’s Theatre.

“The Secret Garden” is a joyful retelling of a story of hope, celebration and all good things in life. Mistress Mary Lennox embarks on a journey from India to her uncle’s home in England. Along the way, she makes friends with the hilarious Canadian Geese and the colorful Giant Bugs that Rock.

In time, she learns to appreciate everything around her, including the Moor Animals and the helpful Fireflies. Add to that a good healthy dose of caring, and what happens? Colin, Martha, Archibald — well, the whole household — begin to enjoy the return of health and happiness in a garden carefully tended … until it blossoms once more.

Playing the title character of Mary Lennox was student Zoe Sandbak. Additional characters included Sydnie Aldrich as Martha Sowerby, Lucas Carranza as Dickon Sowerby, Trinity Tolliver as Susan Sowerby, Gabriel Sanchez as Colin Craven, Shadae Wallin as Ayah/Bilge Rat/Captain, Kylah Hankins as Mrs. Medlock, Julio Velazquez as Doctor Craven, Cyphar Hay as Ben Weatherstaff and Mandy McCallum-Clark as Robin Redbreast.
