Two new arts calendars launched

The Wenatchee arts scene is about to become more informed, thanks to two new event calendars online and in print.

The Wenatchee Arts Commission unveiled a new website — wevarts.org — last month. The site was designed to be a one-stop resource to find events, arts organizations and arts news around the Greater Wenatchee Valley. It also hosts an arts-related classified section for people to sell their stuff, find jobs and facilities for rent.

“There wasn’t a comprehensive landing pad for all the arts organizations in the Wenatchee Valley,” said Brenda Abney, a city staff member on the commission. The Arts Commission took a year to develop the site with a $10,000 grant from Icicle Fund and individual donations, she said.

The site depends on community members to submit information about the events and organizations they’re involved in. Abney said the Arts Commission is trying to get the word out in order to aggregate more content for the site.

“The moment we put out word there was this site out there, we began getting inquires about submitting to the calendar,” Abney said. “I think people want to be part of it.”

The Wenatchee Valley Visitors Bureau also plans to launch a separate calendar in late February named “Wenatchee Valley Live.” The calendar will be a one-sheet summary of goings-on in the area that will be sent to all hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfasts every Thursday. The events will also appear on the bureau’s online calendar at wenatcheevalley.org. To submit events, email marcia@wenatcheevalley.org.
