MANSON — A 500-acre fire burning north of Manson on Lake Chelan’s north shore prompted low level evacuation notices today.
Residents in the Emerson Acres area north of Green’s Landing in Manson were issued a Level 1 evacuation notice — a warning that there’s a fire in the area, and that evacuations could follow. Residents sensitive to smoke should begin making arrangements to leave, according to a news release from the Chelan Ranger District.
Campers at Antilon Lake Campground were also given the warning, the news release said.
Forest Service Road 8200, known as Grade Creek Road, is closed after Antilon Lake, along with Mitchell Creek Campground, a boat-in facility.
About 250 firefighters and their support team are fighting the fire today. They are providing structure protection for homes in the area, as well as at Mitchell Creek Campground, which was evacuated on Thursday.
A command post is set up at the Manson High School, and a national team will take over management of the fire tonight, the news release said.
The cause of the fire that started on private property in the Dutch Harbor area is still under investigation.
