Chelan fire destroys outbuilding
Chelan firefighters kept a shop fire in an orchard from spreading to other buildings and hillside brush early Saturday afternoon north of Chelan.
The fire was the most serious of more than a dozen mainly brush fires responded to Friday and Saturday.
The Chelan fire at 150 Apple Acres Rd. destroyed a shop or garage in an orchard and surrounding trees. Chelan County District 7 firefighters put the fire out before it could spread to nearby farmworker housing, said Capt. Pat Moore. Moore said firefighters were still mopping up at the scene so he didn’t have details or a cause of the fire.
Firefighters have been busy putting out spot brush fires all around Chelan and Douglas counties since the Fourth of July, but none have amounted to much, caused injuries or seriously threatened structures, according to RiverCom dispatchers.
