The Cascade Speakeasy and Electric Toasters Toastmasters clubs of Wenatchee have recently been recognized as President’s Distinguished clubs, the highest achievement clubs can receive in the organization. The two local clubs are among only 10 clubs to achieve the status in their district, which includes 64 clubs in eastern Washington, northeastern Oregon and northern Idaho.
The Apple Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross announced its 2013 volunteer awards during the chapter’s annual meeting June 25. Cathy Click, R.N., of Lake Wenatchee, received the Disaster Services Volunteer of the Year for her leadership of the chapter’s Nurse Corps and for her role as operations manager during the Wenatchee Complex Fire. Kari Strain, of Cashmere, received the Service to Armed Forces Volunteer of Year for her leadership role in the Holiday Mail for Heroes program and her service to local military families and veterans. Teresa Mata, a student at Wenatchee High School, received the Youth Volunteer of the Year for her service with the chapter office, during local disaster events and during WHS Red Cross service projects. Joy Haugen received the Volunteer of the Year for leading the canteen and canteen workers at the King’s Orchard blood drive for the last 38 years.
Steph Grubich, communications and marketing director for Confluence Health, was named to the board of directors of the Apple Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross during the chapter’s annual meeting June 25.
New jobs, new faces
Glenda Ewing has joined Laura Mounter Real Estate and Co. as a real estate agent. She has 23 years of experience as an agent in Lynnwood and Wenatchee and was most recently director of sales at the Best Western Chieftain Inn in Wenatchee.
Andi Zontek has joined RH2 Engineering, Inc. as an intern. She is a 2013 graduate of Wenatchee High School and will be studying engineering at Montana State University this fall.
