ENTIAT — Chelan and Douglas County SWAT team officers surrounded the home of an Entiat area resident and deployed irritant gas to force him out and make an arrest.
David L. Ping was charged with two counts of felony harassment and threats to do harm and booked into Chelan County Justice Center after the 5 p.m. Friday arrest.
SWAT teams were called in after the Wenatchee Police Dept. received a report Friday morning that Ping had made specific and imminent threats to kill two Wenatchee residents, said Wenatchee Police Capt. Doug Jones in a press release. Detectives interviewed the two residents and reviewed text messages allegedly sent to them by Ping. They established probable cause to arrest Ping and received a search warrant for Ping’s residence on Highway 97A.
Officers surrounded the residence around 4 p.m. Friday and established contact with the suspect. Ping refused to come out and after about 50 minutes of negotiating, Jones said SWAT members deployed gas into the home. Ping immediately came out and was taken into custody without incident.
Washington State Patrol closed Highway 97A for about one hour during the negotiations and arrest.
