CORVALLIS – The Wenatchee AppleSox lost to the Corvallis Knights 8-5 on Monday at Goss Stadium.
The defeat snapped Wenatchee’s six-game win streak, but the AppleSox remain atop the West Coast League’s North Division with a 17-11 record.
The defending South Division champion Knights, who lost to Wenatchee in last season’s WCL championship series, scored four times in the second inning and never trailed Monday.
Stuart Patke allowed five runs and three hits in five innings on the mound for the AppleSox. He struck out four and walked two.
The Knights added a run in the fifth inning, and three more in the seventh frame off of Wenatchee reliever Houston Hibberd.
The AppleSox scored two runs in the fourth inning. A Ryan Barr single plated Connor Spencer, and later in the frame a Joey Harris groundout brought Andre Real home from third.
Joe Mello hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning to cut the Knights’ lead in half, but Wenatchee wasn’t able to get any closer.
Mello’s home run, his first of the season, was his fourth hit of the game. Ryan Barr added three hits for the AppleSox.
Peter Van Gansen led Corvallis with three hits, and Cody Lenahan and Gabe Clark each drove in two runs.
