CHELAN — A golf professional broke the course record at Lake Chelan Golf Course on Sunday.
Mark Lawrence, the coure’s assistant Professional Golf Association pro, shot a 64, beating the previous record of 65 held by Lawrence, Von SMith, Ryan Young and Kerry Glessner.
Lawrence played with Chelan native and current University of Washington golfer Kelli Bowers; her brother, Greg Meier; and Brian Vanderhoek, who joined the group on the 12th hole.
“I started thinking about the record after making birdie on No. 10 and getting to 4-under par,” Lawerence said. “On the No. 17 tee while we waited to tee off, Kelli asked what my lowest score has been on the course. I told her I didn’t want to talk about it, so we talked about something else. I don’t remember what it was we talked about the last two holes, but it had nothing to do with golf. I made par on No. 17 after missing a 6-foot putt for birdie. I barely missed a putt for birdie on No. 18 and tapped in for par and the course record.”
