EPHRATA — Police and fire officials say an arsonist has set a series of 14 small fires in the city, mostly in trash cans and dumpsters but one fire burned a shed and damaged a recreational vehicle.
“This arsonist, whether one person or several, represents a clear and present danger to the citizens and property of our community” said Fire Chief Jeremy Burns.
The fires have been set in the southwest area of town over the past two weeks, said city administrator Wes Crago. Most were set between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m.
Officials ask residents to notify them if they see suspicious behavior, especially in alleys or around trash cans and dumpsters. Residents should call police at 754-2491 or the fire department at 754-4666. They should call 911 if they see a fire being set or a fire burning.
One of the fires, reported about 5 a.m. Tuesday morning, burned a storage shed and damaged a recreational vehicle, two fences and broke a window on a residence. It is in the 1300 block of D Street Southwest.
