Mel Musgrove

February 8, 1949 ~ July 15, 2013

Mel Musgrove, 64, passed away July 15, 2013, at home, surrounded by family.

Mel was born February 8, 1949, to Loyd and Hazel Musgrove in Melborne, AR. He moved to the Wenatchee Valley as a young boy and attended Wenatchee and East Wenatchee schools. After graduation, he worked various jobs, until he began a lifelong career as a foundry worker at KB Alloys, working there for 38 years until his retirement in December 2010.

Mel was an outdoorsman from day one; fishing, hunting, shooting and camping were among the things that he enjoyed most. Many hours of Mel’s free time were spent with family and friends listening to a bear race or on a boat catching fish. After the activities of the day, a good reminiscing would take place. Either around the campfire or the back deck, you were sure to hear how the big one got away or how tired his arms would be from reeling in the catch of the day!

In 1979, Mel met and later married the love of his life, Carla. They lived in and around the Wenatchee Valley, eventually moving to their current home in Malaga.

Family and friends will remember Mel for his ease of character in the face of most adversity and his patient, loving ways towards his family. His patience and care of any given situation would be thought out and any opinion he might pass would be done so after much consideration on his part. Mel was a man of few words, therefore when he spoke, you definitely would want to pay attention.

Mel was proud of each of his children beyond words. Their work ethic, love of their children and way of life were all sources of pride for him. When asked about his children, he would share moments, memories and bits about what each of them were doing or pursuing!

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Hazel; and two brothers, Marlin and Jim. Mel is survived by his loving wife, Carla, at their home; two brothers, Howard Musgrove of Wenatchee and Ray (Judy) Musgrove of Benton City, WA; sister, Veda (Dale) Daniels of East Wenatchee; a son, Eric Musgrove of Dunkirk, MD; daughter, Shawna (Brad) Smith of Dryden, WA; daughter, Chrissy Zumwalt of Spokane, WA; ten grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013, at 4:00 p.m., with food and fellowship to follow at the family home at 3009 Malaga-Alcoa Highway, Malaga, WA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the NRA.
